The short answer

From 15 August 2025 through 14 August 2028, Resolution 229/NQ-CP provides tourism-purpose visa exemption for citizens of Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland. The permitted stay is up to 45 days from entry, subject to legal entry conditions. Do not read the twelve-country announcement as a waiver for every EU citizen or automatically extend its tourism wording to work, study or other activities.

Identify the actual tourism programme

The August policy is tied to the Tourism Stimulus Program and names twelve countries individually. Switzerland is included, while membership of a regional organisation is not the test described in the resolution. Start with the passport citizenship and the purpose of the visit, rather than a headline saying Europe. For a couple holding different passports, assess each traveller separately; sharing an itinerary does not make one person’s national exemption apply to the other person.

Keep the purpose restriction visible

The government-hosted September exemption list expressly describes this as entry for tourism purposes. Preserve that qualification when explaining the rule to friends or translating it into a booking note. If the real trip includes employment, a study programme or another distinct purpose, ask the Vietnamese mission or responsible inviting organisation which permission applies. Avoid reducing a detailed legal rule to a nationality and a number of days when the purpose can change the answer.

Check the passport condition before the ticket

The same list states a passport validity of at least six months from entry and requires that the traveller is not within the legal refusal cases. Check the passport intended for this journey, including its expiry, rather than relying on a remembered rule from a previous visit. If renewal is needed, resolve it before making a visa application linked to the old number. A valid reservation and a nationality on the list do not cure an unsuitable travel document.

Count one visit separately from the policy period

The policy’s three-year window and the maximum 45-day visit are separate. Write the intended arrival and departure dates into the itinerary and compare them with the admission actually granted. A return ticket after the permitted stay is still a problem even when the policy itself remains in force for years. If a longer holiday is essential, investigate the appropriate visa before departure instead of assuming the exemption can simply be stretched at a hotel reception.

Use current wording when older offers appear

A promotional tour package may repeat conditions from an earlier programme or omit the restriction on purpose. Ask which dated rule supports the offer and whether it describes your passport and actual trip. Keep the official policy and the commercial package terms as separate records: one concerns entry, while the other concerns services, cancellation and payment. This makes it easier to challenge an incorrect claim without assuming that a genuine hotel or tour booking establishes immigration eligibility.

Questions travellers ask

Does the August waiver cover every EU passport?

No. It names twelve countries; check the actual list.

Can I treat its tourism wording as permission to work?

No. Establish the appropriate entry and activity permissions for the actual trip.
